Jane (name changed for privacy) came into our office exhausted, in pain, and unable to get restful sleep. Over time, her symptoms grew worse, and she felt like her life was slipping away. Jane’s story is not unusual—2–4% of the population, mostly women, live with fibromyalgia.

The challenge with fibromyalgia is that it is often cross-diagnosed with autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, or neuropathy. Traditional diagnostic methods only look at physical tender points, but they don’t reveal what’s actually happening inside the brain.

That’s where a neurological approach makes the difference.

Brain Waves and Fibromyalgia

Your brain works on different frequencies:

  • Gamma: 39–100 Hz

  • Beta: 13–38 Hz

  • SMR: 12–15 Hz

  • Alpha: 8–12 Hz

  • Theta: 3.5–7.99 Hz

  • Delta: 1–3.49 Hz

In patients with fibromyalgia, we often see abnormal patterns in these waves:

  • A theta-alpha ratio below 0.8 in the frontal lobes indicaties fibromyalgia, sleep issues, and chronic fatigue.

  • A high-low alpha ratio below 1.5 at the mid-frontal lobe (FZ) shows immune and frontal lobe fatigue.

  • A theta-beta ratio below 1.8 in the back of the brain is tied to poor stress mangement, depression, anxiety, racing thoughts, self-medicating behaviors, and more.

  • An overproduction of beta in the right frontal lobe is linked with depression.

These patterns show that the brain is running too fast in some areas and too slow in others, creating pain, fatigue, sleep issues, and mood struggles.

Why the Nervous System Matters

Fibromyalgia is more than just pain—it’s a neurological imbalance.

  • Dysautonomia and fight-or-flight dominance keep the body stuck in stress.

  • hypothalimal/pituitary/adrinsl (HPA) axis dysfunction disrupts hormones.

  • Vagus nerve dysfunction and gut problems interfere with serotonin, dopamine, and GABA—neurotransmitters that help regulate pain and mood.

  • Hormonal imbalances like low testosterone or estrogen make it harder for dopamine and serotonin to bind, amplifying pain and fatigue.

A New Way Forward

At Life Springs Family Chiropractic, we use advanced tools to measure and rebalance the brain:

  • EEG brain mapping to identify exact areas of dysfunction.

  • Laser therapy (photobiomodulation) to calm primed brain cells and reduce inflammation.

  • Neurofeedback and brain-based care to retrain brain wave activity.

  • Gentle brain-based chiropractic adjustments to improve brain-body communication and interrupt the stress response.

Time and time again, we see improvements pre- and post-EEG following care in our office. Patients report less pain, more energy, deeper sleep, and a renewed sense of hope.

The Takeaway

Fibromyalgia doesn’t mean your story is over—it means your brain and body are calling for a new approach. If you or a loved one are living with chronic pain, fatigue, and sleepless nights, know that there is hope.
